Nigeria Super Eagles trio Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo all featured as Glasgow Rangers defeated RB Leipzig to reach a memorable Europa League final on Thursday night.
The Germans took a 1-0 lead into the return leg at Ibrox but the Scottish giants turned the tie around within the opening half an hour through goals from James Tavanier (18′) and Glen Kamara (4′).
In-form attacker Christopher Nkuku scored for Leipzig with twenty minutes left to bring the aggregate score back to parity but John Lundstram netted the crucial winner for Rangers ten minutes later.
Bassey played the entire duration of the game at the left centre back position of Rangers’ back three while Joe Aribo played in the False 9 role of head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorts’s 541 formation.
Aribo however limped off in first half stoppage time with his place taken by Zambian Fashion Sakala.
Defensive stalwart Balogun came off the bench just before the hour mark to replace Ryan Jack, helping his side to see off passage into the final as they attempt to win their first European trophy in 50 years.
Rangers will face aother German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the final on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain.
