Nigerian FIFA Elite A Assistant Referee, Mimisen Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka has been chosen as part of the match officials at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica www.aclsports.com reports.

Mrs Calvin-Onwuka is joined by other match officials from the CAF region Vincentia Amedome of Togo and Makalima Akhona, both centre referees. Cameroon’s Carine Atezambong, Fanta Kone (Mali) and Diana Chikotesha (Zambia) are the remaining Assistant Referees.

Fatiha Jermoumi and Bouchra Karboubi both of Morocco are also going to be in Costa Rica as AVAR Offcials.

Most of 13 Referees, 26 Assistant Referees and 14 AVARs from the six Confederations of FIFA will be participating in a major FIFA Tournament for the first time.

Mrs Calvin-Onwuka and her CAF team are currently in Toulon, France for the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament (formerly known as the Toulon Tournament) that kicks off in Sunday the 29th of May 2022. That tournament for U20 men’s football teams is using an all women match officials for the first time.

Mimisen Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka was part of the history making all-women officiating team at a full men’s tournament when they took part at the CHAN 2020 Tournament in Cameroon

The Benue born highest ranked Association Football match official of the Nigeria Football Federation, Calvin-Onwuka, was also part of the officiating team in the final of the first ever CAF Women’s Champions League played in November of 2021

The 2022 U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica will run from the 10th to the 28th of August. Most of the CAF match officials listed by FIFA will be expected to be at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July.
