The #NPFL21 enters week 5 this weekend (Sunday) with some very interesting matches lined up across the country. But in case you have missed the previous four weeks, not to worry, we have five (5) interesting stats to keep you up to date and in the right frame of mind to enjoy GW 5.
1- League leaders, Rivers United have the meanest defense so far in the league after they have conceded just one goal in four matches.
That goal came in their last match against Wikki Tourist, who defeated the Pride of Rivers 1-0 in Bauchi to put an end to United’s unbeaten start to the season.
On Sunday, United would hope to bounce quickly back to winning ways when they host Imo side, Heartland in Port Harcourt.
2- While Rivers United are top of the league on nine (9) points, only two points separate the Pride of Rivers and 7th placed team, Mountain of Fires and Miracles football club, MFM.
MFM host second placed Rangers International at the Agege stadium and a win will see the Prayer Warriors leapfrog the Flying Antelopes.
3- Now it gets very interesting here, only three (3) teams are still unbeaten after four (4) matches – Kano Pillars, Nasarawa United, and Uyo based Dakkada FC.
The quartet have won two and drawn two of their opening four (4) matches so far and will be looking to maintain that on Sunday.
Nasarawa are at home to Katsina in Lafia, while Kano Pillars have it all to do in Aba where they face the People’s Elephant, Enyimba. For Dakkada, it’s a road trip to Makurdi in a tricky match against Lobi Stars.
4- Abia Warriors are the only side just to register a point this season after losing all their four matches this season. The Warriors have scored two (2) goals and conceded seven (7), which represents their worst ever start to a season.
Consequently, the Abia side have given their manager, Imama Amapakabo a three-match ultimatum starting with the GW5 encounter against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi.
5- Five (5) goals have been scored by seven (7) teams so far this season, three (3) of these teams are in the top four, leaders, Rivers United, Kano Pillars (3rd), and Nasarawa United (4th).
Others include Jigawa Golden Stars, Warri Wolves, Katsina United, and Heartland, who interestingly find themselves in the relegation waters.
Bonus
6- No team in the NPFL21 has scored more goals than Lobi Stars this season. The Makurdi side have netted six (6) times in their opening four (4) games.
Can Lobi add to that when they take on high-flying Dakkada FC?
