Nigeria’s national U20 side, Flying Eagles on Thursday spanked Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Nasarawa United 4-2 in a friendly match decided at the Goal Project Pitch in Abuja.
The Flying Eagles, coached by Ladan Bosso are preparing for their often postponed regional qualifiers for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to hold this month.
Nasarawa United, on their own were using the game as part of their preparations for the 2020/2021 NPFL season which has been fixed to commence on Sunday, December 6, 2020.
Bosso’s wards went in front in the 3rd minute when defender Chris Nweze headed home a corner kick by Mike Zaruma, a member of the last U20 team under Paul Aigbogun.
Although the Solid Miners restored parity six minutes later, the Flying Eagles went back in front through an individual effort by Azeez Oseni in the 20th minute but Nasarawa replied again two minutes later.
A spot kick by Nweze, for his brace, restored the Eagles’ lead on the half hour mark before a brilliant free kick by former Golden Eaglets star Wisdom Ubani ten minutes after the break wrapped up the win for Bosso’s boys.
Former Bayelsa United and El-Kanemi coach Bosso said after the game that it was a worthy test for his boys.
“It was a good test, this is what we’re looking for,” began the three-time Flying Eagles coach.
“Nasarawa United are a good side, (they have) good ball players within them but I think tactically, the little time we’ve stayed with the boys and how to get the goals really came to play for us.
“We’ve won 2-1, 3-1 against some academies but today, it’s 4-2, you can see the goal margin didn’t really show but in terms of the technicality they showed, I think this was a good test for us, compared to others,” said Bosso.
The Nigerian side continues their preparations at the nation’s capital, Abuja.
