Foniso, a social networking app for sports fans, has been officially presented to the public at an event in Lagos on Tuesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Foniso, a digital platform designed to revolutionize the global sports industry, is a sports social app that helps people connect with other sport lovers, follow their favourite sport stars and join various fan communities. It is just like one’s everyday social app – only that its more sport specific.
Dominic Essien, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Foniso, spoke at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday.
“We are revolutionising sports in a way that will offer a completely new experience to fans, athletes, sports legends, other industry stakeholders and the public,” began Essein to the press and dignitaries at the event.
“Our inspiration came from our commitment to ensure that a critical industry like sports is not lost in the social media space. Hence, the need to create a unique hub for people to engage and enjoy sports globally.’’
The CEO, an Economics graduate of University of Port Harcourt, explained that one of the avenues the platform aims to develop is to sponsor local games, noting that the platform seeks a well organised sports community to partner with, where it can regularly showcase local talents and promote them globally.
“By partnering with 20 clubs for example, each with at least 22 players and their respective fans, we can build a significant following. Our platform will enable clubs to showcase their games and players, increasing their visibility to a global audience. We will adopt a two-pronged approach, meeting with the football federation and clubs directly to discuss how to best showcase their content and talents,’’ he noted.
In addition, Essien also spoke on the importance of generating revenue through the platform, stating that the key to monetisation lies in the engagement of the content shared by various users.
“As users generate views, likes, and followers, they will be compensated according to the platform’s monetization policy, which is currently in the works. Similar to other social media platforms, our ultimate aim is to ensure that users can monetise their content, especially as we continue to grow our user base and provide them with a feature-rich platform.”
Essien also added that the company will reach out to necessary stakeholders in the industry, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the likes, to see how the platform can be fully utilised by the Nigerian football community.
Meanwhile, Taiwo Ajayi, the company’s chief technical officer, addressed the critical issue of data security, highlighting FONISO’s stringent verification procedures to ensure the platform is safe for all users.
Ajayi also emphasised that Foniso’s commitment to ensuring data security has been made evident by strategic partnerships with reputable domestic and international cloud service providers and organisations.
Projections for Foniso include a targeted acquisition of 1000 downloads in the next six months, with the goal of rapidly scaling the platform to reach one million users across all regions within the next 24 months.
The Foniso app is currently available for download on Google and iOS playstores.
Apart from Essien and Ajayi, David Adekunle – who is a member of the Foniso team – was also present alongside other dignataries at the media briefing in Lagos.
