Following an eventful and rewarding year, Super Falcons forward, Rasheedat Ajibade expressed gratitude to God for what she calls “a fantastic year”.
Reminiscing on how the year went; from the participating at WAFU Cup where she scored three goals and helped Nigeria to a third place finish, to the female U20 World Cup with the Falconets in France, and then making the squad for the Africa Women’s cup of Nations (AWCON), winning it and qualifying for the Women’s World Cup in France next year; the FC Robo of Lagos forward said “It’s been a very good year for me. A fantastic year to be precise.”
On winning the just concluded 11th edition of the AWCON in her debut tournament “It’s a dream come true for me,” Ajibade said. Adding that “I just hope for the best again that the subsequent ones will come my way.”
Asides from being in France and Ghana for the U20 Women’s World Cup and AWCON respectively, the Lagos based forward was also invited for the all Star game between the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles both of Nigeria at the just concluded Asisat Oshoala football for girls clinic.
With players like Asisat Oshoala herself, Odion Ighalo, Onome Ebi, Stephen Odey, Gbolahan Salami, John Dosu, Abu Azeez etc all present Ajibade says playing with them and rubbing shoulders with some of big guns in Nigerian football “Is a great priviledge.”
“I always look forward to programmes like this and I feel so excited about it,” she added. In a nutshell, Ajibade says “God’s will has fantastically begun in 2018.”
With the Women’s World Cup in France next year and camp said to begin in January ahead of the China and Cyprus invitational tournaments in January and February respectively, we hope to see more of the young forward with the Falcons and expect her to build on her AWCON performance in the coming year.
