The management of Gateway Football Club have relieved the entire coaching crew of their duties with immediate effect.
The Samuel Abimbola led crew was sacked after they failed to meet the management’s earlier directive to amass six points out of their last three games.
Rather, the team struggled to secure three points at home against Racine and lost against Bayelsa United and Akwa starlets.
In a telephone chat with ACLSports.com, team manager of Gateway Football Club, Tony Soleye confirmed the sack adding that the management had to let the technical crew go in order to achieve their objectives for this season.
“It’s true we relieved them of their duties. In every organisation especially football, the issue of coaches is about hiring and firing. We are gunning for promotion and we thought it wise that capable hands will be needed,” he said.
The sacked technical crew also lost all the away matches they played in the Nigeria National League, NNL, second stanza thereby putting the club’s promotion ambition into jeopardy.
“We gave the technical crew all they require to succeed but we got little in return. We had no option than to give them a three match ultimatum to salvage the situation but they couldn’t,” said Soleye.
Soleye said the management is yet to decide on who takes up the coaching role at the club.
“It depends on the management to decide on who takes up the job. We told the other back room technical crew that they have to take over for now until the next line of action is taken.”
Gateway FC are 6th on the Southern Conference log with 38 points from 24 games.
