Nigeria’s Temitope Adeshina has set a new National Record in the women’s High Jump event. Adeshina created a Personal Best (PB) of 1.96m at the Corky Classic in Texas to eclipse the National Record set by former African Champion, Doreen Amata in the outdoor (1.95m) and indoor (1.93m) since 2008.
The 25-year-old freshman from Nigeria did not only break the National Record but her school record, took the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) lead and claimed the World Lead. She is tied at the number 3 NCAA mark.

This is Temitope Adeshina second competition since she arrived the US to further both her academic and athletic careers at Texas Tech and she had started the year with a modest 1.83m a week before where she finished joint first with her teammate.
The 2022 African Silver medallist entered the event at the 1.72m height, having first time clearances up till 1.85m. She took two attempts to clear the 1.88m bar and then nailed 1.91m at the first time of asking, taking down the School Record first before she attempted the winning height.
