Nigeria’s table tennis star, Aruna Quadri has become the first African and the first black man to break into the Top 10 in world table tennis.
Quadri who is Africa’s number one table tennis player, was on Tuesday ranked as the 10th best male table tennis player in the world according to the latest ITTF World rankings.
In the words of the World Table Tennis “Aruna has truly been mister consistent in both his performances and his participation.
His recent performance at the 2022 WTT Star Contender, Doha which included taking out China’s rising stars in succession and a quarterfinal appearance at the World Table Tennis Championships Finals, according to the WTT have earned him this spot.
“The Nigerian has spent the last year notching up a string of finishes inside the top eight while being one of the most active players on the WTT scene and it looks like the 33-year-old is just getting started,” WTT added.
Compatriot Olajide Omotayo dropped by 10 steps to 99th while Bode Abiodun gained 34 steps up to be ranked 97th in the world.
In the women’s category, Nigeria’s highest-ranked player Offiong Edem moved up 10 places to be ranked 89th in the world.
