National champions have emerged at the just concluded 1st National Judo Classics Championships in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
2015 All African Games bronze medallist, Franca Audu won gold medal in the -52kg women’s category to maintain her 12 years’ dominance in the weight class. 2023 African Judo Open champion, Enku Ewa defeated Amara Udeze to win gols in the -63kg and adjudged the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship.
In the men’s category, Miracle Cyprian won gold to continued his dominance in the -90kg weight class. 2022 National Sports Festival Champions, Kehinde Aremu and Taiwo Aremu won gold medal in the -66kg and -73kg weight class respectively.
President of Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr Musa Oshodi told www.aclsports.com that 31 athletes have been selected and will resume camp from 20th January to 4th February, 2024.
Oshodi said the athletes selected was based on their performance at the recently concluded 1st National Judo Classic Championship in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He said, “In furtherance of the preparation for the next year’s African Games taking place in Ghana, the Nigeria Judo Federation has selected 31 Judokas (17 men and 14 women) for invitation to camp coming up from 20th January to 4th February, 2024.
“The selection was based on the Athletes performance at the just concluded first classic Judo championship.
“The camp will take place at the University of Port Harcourt under the tutelage of eight seasoned coaches.”
