Germany international, Julian Draxler has expressed confidence in his ability to fight for a starting berth at PSG, despite the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Paris Saint-Germain broke transfer records to sign Neymar from Barcelona, before completing the signing of youngster, Mbappe on an initial loan deal, but Draxler isn’t shaken by the arrival of the two superstars.
The 23-year-old, who was intensely linked with a move from Paris, during the international break helped Germany edge closer to next year’s world cup in Russia when he scored in the 6-0 demolition of Norway and says his performance was a statement to his club.
“These two international matches did me a world of good” Draxler said. “I think I sent PSG a strong message; they know that they can count on me.
Draxler also debunked suggestions that he was better off leaving the club following the arrival of Neymar and Mbappe.
“I didn’t want to leave this summer because I aim to earn my place and to prove that I have the quality to play in this team,” he added.
“Playing with Neymar? I’m happy. Right now, PSG is one of Europe’s top five clubs. Whether I’m playing for Paris or Bayern Munich, there will be competition.”
Draxler has been capped 37 times for Die Mannschaft, and captained the side to the FIFA Confederations cup title, and was also named the most valuable player in the tournament.
