Nigeria’s representatives in this season’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) continental club cup competitions; Lobi Stars and Rangers will be in action on Wednesday when hostilities begin in the 2018/19 football season.
Champions League representatives Lobi Stars who are making a return to continental duties after a five-season absence are already in Cameroon to face modest side UMS de Loum in their preliminary round first leg match.
The 2018/19 Nigerian Super Cup winners coached by veteran Solomon Ogbeide arrived the Cameroonian capital Yaounde early in the week and will be hoping to secure a good first leg result when both sides clash in Yaounde on Wednesday.
The first leg match will hold at the Stade Militaire de Ben Aknoun, in the capital city, Yaounde starting from 3:30pm West African time.
In the Confederation Cup, AITEO Cup winners Enugu Rangers will face Ethiopian side Defence Force Sports Club at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu in their first leg preliminary round game.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men will be hoping to make a better impression on the continent this term after a poor run in the 2017 Champions League and Confederation Cup where they were beaten by Zamalek and Zesco United respectively.
Rangers have beefed up their squad with a number of new signings including their former player Michael Uchebo who played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Former FC Ifeanyiubah star Pascal Seka has also joined the side.
The game will kick-off at 4pm Nigerian time in Enugu with the return leg billed for the Addis Ababa Stadium in a week’s time.
