Kano Pillars head coach Abdu Maikaba is hopeful that his team’s 5-0 annihilation by Enyimba will send a strong message to the Kano Stage government, owners of the club after their troubled trip to Aba.
The Sai Madu Gida only arrived Aba, venue of Wednesday’s game in the early hours of match day after failing to leave Kano on time due to their inability to access funds for the Match Day 28 game.
Enyimba made them pay for their disastrous logistics as the hosts scored three times in the first half and twice more in the second with Joseph Atule scoring twice for the People’s Elephant.
Pillars coach Maikaba, a former Enyimba coach says he was not surprised the result turned out the way it went.
“It was a difficult experience (for us) having arrived about 2am this morning so I am not surprised my players could not cope. When it became mandatory to come for the game, we looked for flights to around this area and the closest we could get was Port Harcourt,” Maikaba told www.aclsports.com after the game.

The former Akwa United and Plateau United coach Abdu Maikaba explained further the main reason for the club’s mini-crisis and hopes that the manner of their defeat to Enyimba on Wednesday would help the government to solve Pillars situation quickly.
“The Kano State government did not appoint a Sports Commissioner and it was just yesterday (Tuesday) that they screened two names for the position. I think that is the problem and without a Commissioner, it is becoming difficult for the management to get a way out, especially in this era.
“Maybe the loss will help things to get better. Maybe the government will now quickly appoint a Sports Commissioner which I believe will solve the problem we currently have,” added the former U20 assistant coach.

Asked if the consequences of Wednesday’s defeat will not be too damning on his side’s aspirations, Maikaba thinks they can still salvage something from the season.
“We don’t have much time again. It is good we have taken the team to a very good position but still, we are not late to get a continental position because with this result I wonder where we will be on the log but I believe we can still recover and get something from the season,” concluded Maikaba.
After the loss to Enyimba on Wednesday, Maikaba and his Kano Pillars side will host Shooting Stars in their Match Day 29 match at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Sunday.
