Manchester United manager, José Mourinho has expressed disappointment with his players whom he felt almost threw away the game against Basel by playing ‘PlayStation football.’
United marked their return to the CL with a win, courtesy of goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, which gave the Red Devils a comfortable 3-0 win over Basel at Old Trafford.
However, Mourinho was left disappointed by his players’ lack of respect for their opponents which he said nearly saw his side throw away the game by playing ‘flicks and tricks.’
“Until 2-0 we were stable, we played with confidence,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
“After 2-0 everything changed, we stopped playing seriously and stopped making right decisions.
“We could have put ourselves in trouble. We were playing fantasy football, Playstation football. I don’t like it – flicks and tricks.
“We gambled and you have to respect your opponent. I don’t know if goal difference will play a part.
“We lost position, our shape, we lost balls in easy situations. I didn’t like it – the players relaxed too much.”
