Former Nigerian international footballer and Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medallist Promise Isaac is dead, reports www.aclsports.com

Until his death on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, Isaac was a player with Austin Bold FC of Texas, a second division club in the United States.

The club announced Promise’s death on their Twitter page on Thursday without stating the exact cause of his demise.

Isaac, 31, was the captain of the Nigeria Under 20 side which won the 2005 Africa Youth Championship in Republic of Benin with Isaac himself scoring both goals in the final win over Egypt.

Promise Isaac would then captain the Nigerian side which prominently had immediate past Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi to the world championship in Holland where they lost 2-1 to Argentina in the final. Isaac scored one goal in that tournament.

The team was coached by Samson Siasia and the coach would later lead a Nigerian side comprising of many of the 2005 set and again captained by Isaac to the 2008 Olympics.

Nigeria again lost in the final of the men’s football tournament to Argentina as Promise and his teammates settled for Silver medal.

Promise Isaac is now the second member of that team to have passed on after right back Adefemi Olubayo died in 2011.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

I remember him from the time in the Siasia youth team era. He led a silver generation of youth players. They were only one goal short of being considered a golden generation as Argentina denied them that honour in 2005 and 2008. He will be fondly remembered for contributing his quota to that beautiful era.
