Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has given assurances that the team can do well against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Friday night even in the absence of top striker Victor Osimhen, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Nice forward, who is among the available strikers in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the South Africans, thinks that he can fill the void left by the injured Victor Osimhen if given the chance.
“I am a goalscorer, he [Osimhen] is a goal scorer,” Terem Moffi told www.aclsports.com.
Moffi has appeared 16 times for Nigeria and has scored four goals with his last goal coming against Madagascar in an international friendly last October.
“With the right tactics and the right formation and me doing my part, I think I can fill up his shoes. We want to go to the FIFA World Cup, so I think each and every one of us will give our 100% to be there,” he added.
The 25-year-old scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 for Les Aiglons – one of the Super Eagles strikers who achieved double figures in one of Europe’s top five leagues – was not pleased with his output but hopes to do better next season.
“It is a thing of pride when you score double digits. Obviously, I did not hit the mark that I wanted but we have to take the positives and look forward to next season,” Terem Moffip responded.
Following Benin Republic’s 1-0 win over Rwanda, the Super Eagles of Nigeria need only a win against the South Africans to move top of the group. Friday’s game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo has been scheduled to kick off by 8pm.
