Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United on Wednesday unveiled their new head coach Fatai Osho and twenty-three new signings to the media in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state capital, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Promise Keepers like Akwa United are known finished fourth in Group A of the NPFL last season, narrowly missing out on a Super Six spot. They have now engaged the services of Osho, who is famed to be the brain behind Rivers United’s league title success in 2022.

Osho left Rivers United in the summer after two years serving as first assistant to Stanley Eguma and replaces Deji Ayeni as Akwa United head coach, hoping to steer the team to an enviable height.

Osho was unveiled to the media at the Nest of Champions by Akwa United Chairman Etubom Paul Bassey who stated his and the club management’s belief that he is a tactician capable of taking the club to the top.

“We believe that Fatai Osho, with his pedigree, with his experience, is a coach that can take us to El dorado, he is a coach that can return us to the continent and he can take us back to 2021 and get us a trophy here or two,” said the respected Paul Bassey at the unveiling.

Reacting, Fatai Adesegun Osho says his major target at the club is to win the league title. He admitted that there are several other clubs in the league with the same ambition but winning the top prize in the NPFL is his ultimate target.

“We are quite aware that we need to do something unique to win the league title and the aim is to win it. If we are not winning it, I shouldn’t be here.

“If there are medals in the league, I have won the silver and the bronze, the only medal missing is the gold and here is a very big platform to achieve it,” said Osho.

Meanwhile, Akwa United through their YouTube page announced the signing of twenty-three new players ahead of the 2023/2024 NPFL season. The list includes Kufre Ebong and Dare Ojo who are making returns to the club.
