Ikorodu City and Bayelsa United were one of the biggest winners on match day 11 of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday after claiming wins over Katsina United and Rivers United respectively, www.aclsports.com reports.
Ikorodu City came from a goal down to beat the Changi Boys 2-1 at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina, while Bayelsa United piped the 2022 league champions 1-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt.
The two teams started the match day in the bottom four, but the significant result on the road has propelled them high up the table.
In Katsina, Moses Effiong profited from some poor defending by Ikorodu City’s defence to bundle home for the game’s opener. Just before the break, Alade Solomon headed home from Emmanuel Solomon’s cross before the latter scored the winner in the dying embers of the game
In PH, Bayelsa United secured their first win on the road under Ladan Bosso this term. The Prosperity Boys shocked the Pride of Rivers courtesy of an early goal.
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) also ended the unbeaten run of Elkanemi Warriors with a comprehensive 3-0 win at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Samuel Ayanrinde headed home a cross from Monday Gideon just before the half-hour mark. Ten minutes later Abubakar Aliyu’s miss-hit cross flew over goalkeeper Kolawole Oladipo for Shooting Stars’ second. Few minutes after the hour mark, Adam Mustapha – who came on for Samuel Ayanrinde at the break – fired past Oladipo from distance to complete the rout.
Emmanuel Ogbole scored the game’s only goal to help ten-man Kwara United beat Nasarawa United in Lafia.
Meanwhile, it finished goalless between Enyimba and Remo Stars; the same outcome between Plateau United and defending champions Rangers in Jos.
Earlier on Saturday, a late Rabiu Ali penalty for Kano Pillars condemned Bendel Insurance to a second successive home loss of the season. Lobi Stars returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Abia Warriors in Lafia.
