The board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have tasked Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and a few other top flight teams on the upgrade of their Stadiums ahead of the 2024/2025 season.
Shooting Stars finished fourth at the end of the recently concluded league season but their playing surface at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba sometimes struggled for air and water during the course of the season.
The League board, preparing for a tentative commencement of the new NPFL season on August 31 has now issued notes of “up your games” to current league campaigners Shooting Stars, Abia Warriors, Kwara United, Sunshine Stars, Niger Tornadoes and Plateau United.
Newly crowned President Federation Cup Kings El-Kanemi Warriors who also gained promotion to the top flight last month were also issued the note as part of their welcome back to the big league.
“As we look forward to the meeting, letters have been written to some of the clubs whose facilities were found not suitable to host the NPFL matches in the new season in compliance with provisions of Facility requirements of the Club Licensing Regulations”, Davidson Owumi was quoted by the NPFL Media in his note to the clubs.
The note was primarily to invite NPFL clubs to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled to be staged in Lagos from July 15 to 16.
At the AGM, the NPFL Board and the Club Owners Association are expected to come to agreement on a final date for the commencement of the new season and also to iron out many of the differences that plagued the just concluded season such as the structure of the season’s calendar and sharing of financial derivatives from sponsors.
Rangers International won the league title, their eighth overall with Remo Stars finishing second for a second consecutive season while Enyimba finished third. Both Rangers and Remo Stars will campaign in the CAF Champions League while Enyimba will be joined by Cup winners El-Kanemi Warriors in the Confederation Cup.
