Reigning Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Enyimba and 2016 champions Rangers International on Wednesday enjoyed wins in their rescheduled games at home.
Playing at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Enyimba made it five consecutive league wins with a hard fought 2-0 win over Kwara United who proved a hard nut to crack for the People’s Elephant.
In-form winger Stanley Dimgba gave Enyimba the lead against his former team when he finished a Cyril Olisema move in the fifth minute. Striker Victor Mbaoma also netted his ninth league goal of the campaign with a fine goal five minutes from time.
The win took Enyimba, coached by Fatai Osho to fifth position on the log with three more outstanding games still to play. They next face Nasarawa United in Lafia on Sunday.
At the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers returned to winning ways after Sunday’s loss to Akwa United. The Flying Antelopes edged former champions Kano Pillars 1-0 in a rescheduled Match Day 11 game.
Forward Chinonso Eziekwe scored the game’s only goal sixteen minutes from time after good work by returnee Ifeanyi George to take Rangers out of the relegation zone once again.
Up next for Rangers is a trip to Sunshine Stars on Sunday while Kano Pillars will be guests to Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
There will be a full programme of action in the NPFL this weekend.
