Enyimba FC midfield star Chukwuka Onuwa says fans of his former club MFM FC miss him as much as he misses them. Onuwa left the Lagos-based club last December to join former league champions Enyimba FC after five seasons at the club.
Both teams will face for the second time in this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday at MFM’s home ground; the Agege Stadium in what will be Onuwa’s first time of returning to the compact former playground of his.
The diminutive star is sure of one thing, a grand reception from the fans.
“The fans are going to be happy seeing me because I know they already miss me and I miss them too,” began Onuwa to www.aclsports.com via the Enyimba media.
“The reaction in the stadium is going to be very massive that day because of my six seasons or five seasons over there because I helped the team.
“I really committed myself for the team, I’m gonna receive a warm reception over there and I pray with God on my side and the side of Enyimba’s we’re gonna have positive result over there. That’s our aim of going there,” added Onuwa.
Sunday’s game is important in the sense that MFM FC are top of the Group A table with twenty-two (22) points while Enyimba follow closely with nineteen (19) points. The People’s Elephant have never lost against MFM in their six previous league meetings but Onuwa believes his side must be wary of Fidelis Ikechukwu’s men.
“Actually, this game is important to Enyimba because we’re going to Lagos to face MFM who are sitting top of the league and we know the atmosphere is going to be good in Agege.
“For us going there, playing for Enyimba now, we need to concentrate and know what we’re doing because that team is very dangerous because that’s the team I played for five or six years. I know their philosophy, I know the way they play, I know the charisma in the club and I know what they can do,” warned the 22-year old.
Another of MFM FC’s former player Stanley Okorom who also joined Enyimba same time as Onuwa is also in the Enyimba squad en route to Lagos for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash.
