Remo Stars returned to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League table after a comfortable 2-0 home win over Kwara United in one of the match day 13 games played on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Sky Blue Stars, having picked a point away at Niger Tornadoes last time out, returned to Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne to wrestle the top spot from the hands of Lobi Stars who were beaten 1-0 by Akwa United courtesy of Seyi Oguntayo’s first-half goal. Goals in either half from midfielder Adedayo Olamilekan and former United man Samad Kadiri earned Remo Stars their eighth win of the campaign.

Benjamin Taminu’s early penalty in Benin was all Bendel Insurance needed to beat Sunshine Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Similarly, Emmanuel Ekpeyong’s goal earned Doma United another routine home win over Kano Pillars earlier on Saturday.

In the battle of the strugglers, Gombe United edged Heartland 2-0 at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. Birthday boy Abba Umar and Chijioke Alaekwe scored for the Savannah Scorpions. It was the second defeat in four games for new Heartland coach Kennedy Boboye.

Shooting Stars’ free-fall continued on Sunday as they failed to beat Katsina United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Andrew Idoko handed the visitors the lead before Taofeek Malomo equalized almost immediately but the Warriors could not find the winner. Gbenga Ogunbote’s side are now winless in their past four games.

In the Abia derby played at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Enyimba defeated Abia Warriors 2-1. Eze Ekwutoziam and youngster Chidiebere Nnachi handed the home side a two-goal lead before Augustine Njoku got a consolation for the Umuahia side late on. Meanwhile, Rangers fell 2-0 to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa. Kehinde Lawal and Ekeson Okorie scored for the home side.

Niger Tornadoes’ relegation woes were compounded by Plateau United as the Jos side came away with all three points in a five-goal thriller. Plateau United went in front early through Harrison Ebah before the home side turned things around through Bashir Usman’s brace.  However, the visitors scored two further goals through Albert Hilary and Nenrot Silas to claim their first win on the road this season.
