The much talked about outstanding league matches of Nigeria Premier Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United have now been apportioned dates with the league set to go on break after this weekend’s games, www.aclsports.com reports.
Rivers United only on Thursday defeated Katsina United 2-0 in the first of their six outstanding matches which were accumulated due to their participation in the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation during which they reached the quarter final of the competition.
The NPFL Board has now officially informed that the league will go on break after this weekend’s round of games which ends on Monday with Rivers United visiting Bayelsa United in an Old Rivers derby billed for the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
What will follow Monday’s game is the President’s Federation Cup in midweek before United will then begin their three weeks of clearing all outstanding games with their difficult trip to Remo Stars, a Match Day 21 game billed for Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Rivers United will then stay around the South Western axis for two more outstanding games with a trip to Ilorin to face Kwara United on May 8 while they face Sunshine Stars in Akure on Saturday, May 11.
Stanley Eguma’s Rivers United will then travel back to the East to face Abia Warriors, a Match Day 29 encounter on May 15 while they round off their outstanding games schedule with a Match Day 22 home tie with Niger Tornadoes on Saturday, May 18.
The President Federation Cup will take centre stage on the midweek of May 22 with Round of 32 fixtures while the NPFL will return with Match Day 33 games on the weekend of May 25.
Rivers United who exited the Confederation Cup at the quarter final stage are currently 12th on the NPFL league log with 40 points, fourteen points behind leaders Rangers International but with five games in hand.
