It is not the best of times for Sunshine Stars and their fans after Nigerian champions, Enyimba International compounded their woes in the NPFL21 on Monday.

Right winger Samson Obi stole the show as his second half strike proved to be all the People’s Elephant needed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory and all three points at the Soccer Temple in Agege.

All eyes were on the duo of Anayo Iwuala and goalkeeper, John Noble, who are the latest Super Eagles invitees, but it was the little known Obi who stole the show to net the decisive winner on 56 minutes.

It was his first goal of the season, he reacted quickest to a loose ball from goalkeeper Noble which the Sunshine defense fumbled, leaving their goalkeeper Okafor to the mercy of Obi, who kept his composure to slot home calmly.

Despite a dominant second half display from Gbenga Ogunbote’s men, they came short once as the result extended their poor run of form to ten matches without a win.

Five (5) draws and five (5) defeats in the last ten games mean the last time the hosts won a game in the NPFL was back in January 31, a 3-1 win over Rangers in Akure.

In terms of their positions on the log, Enyimba move up to fifth (5th) on 27 points, but have four matches in hand, while Sunshine are 14th, but just a point above relegation.

Up next for them is a trip to Port Harcourt where they take on Rivers United while Enyimba face MFM in a rescheduled match on Thursday at the same venue (Agege).

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the NPFL, Dakkada FC picked up a valuable win after a hard-earned 1-0 win over Katsina United, and in Enugu, Rangers were just too good for their visitors Nasarawa United.

Two first half goals from Godspower Aneifok and Chinonso Eziekwe secured a 2-0 win for the Flying Antelopes at the Cathedral.
