Nwabali plays key role in Chippa win
Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was between the sticks and played a key role for his South African side Chippa United as they defeated Cape Town Spurs 1-0 for their first league win of the season on Friday night, www.aclsports.com reports.
The former Enyimba goalkeeper was impressive in the game as he made four saves as well as playing a crucial role in the game’s only goal just before the break.
Chippa came into the game on the back of a home loss to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, while the Urban Warriors had lost their previous three games in the current PSL season.
Cape Town Spurs started the game brightly and after just five minutes of play, the Urban Warriors took the game to the visiting outfit, and were able to create a chance early on but Nwabali was on hand to make a stop.
The home side continued to look dangerous in the opening half but were let down by their poor finishing and organization in the final third.
Nevertheless, Chippa took the lead five minutes before the break with Ronaldo Maarman grabbing the goal out of nowhere. Nwabali sent a ball high up the pitch and the attacker took it down brilliantly before his shot from range left the Spurs goalkeeper stranded at his near post.
Despite numerous chances created toward the end of the tie, Spurs failed to make the most of their second-half momentum and in turn, Chippa managed to see the game out as 1-0 winners.
Nwabali, who joined the Chilli Boys earlier in the year, has played key roles in his side’s campaign having started every league game this season and has three clean sheets to his name.
