Evelyn Nwabuoku was on target on Thursday morning as Rivers Angels defeated Delta Queens in PortHarcourt to seal their place in this season’s Super 4.

The match which was initially scheduled for Wednesday evening was postponed due to heavy downpour at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in the state capital.

Asides from being the final match of the abridged league season, it was a match which carried extra significance as Rivers Angels needed a win to topple FC Robo of Lagos at the top of the table and clinch the Super 4 ticket.

A draw was never going to be enough and the girls showed their mettle to win the game in front of their home fans courtesy of a 63rd minute set piece from Nwabuoku as Delta Queens ended the season with a loss on the road.

In similar vein, reigning champions Bayelsa Queens survived a scare from reigning AITEO Cup Champions Nasarawa Amazons to confirm their participation in this season’s Super 4.

Coming into the game on Thursday morning, Bayelsa Queens needed a draw to qualify as Group C’s representative for the Super 4. So they began the game the best way possible going two goals up in front of their fans within 30mins but were however pegged back by the team from Lafia to keep the score level at halftime.

In the second period, the home team had the best chance to put the game to bed but couldn’t. They however also ensured that the Amazons couldn’t get a winner as a draw was just enough to see them through.

After six rounds of games, the top four teams from each group that will be competing at the Super 4 include: Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Confluence Queens and Adamawa Queens.
