Rivers Angels captain and midfielder Evelyn Nwabuoku expressed her happiness after her team redeemed their image with the 2018/2019 NWPL Super 4 win against Confluence Queens at the Agege Soccer Temple on Sunday evening.
“It feels good to win,” the Super Falcons midfield maestro said to www.aclsports.com after the game. “That’s the dream of every player; to win and I’m glad we ended it on a very good note after losing out on the AITEO Cup.”
Speaking of the AITEO Cup, after reaching the final of the Super 4 it presented Rivers Angels the opportunity to put their recent trophyless run to an end after failing to win the Super 4 trophy in the last two editions and also losing this year’s AITEO Cup final to Nasarawa Amazons.
So coming to the final against debutants Confluence Queens “We knew we had to play because we had lost out and cannot bring the AITEO Cup back. This was the only place to redeem our image, we had to give it our best shot and I’m glad we came out top in the Super 4,” Nwabuoku said.
A crucial last minute save from goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was however crucial to that win and here’s what Evelyn Nwabuoku had to say when asked to describe the save in one word: “CLASSIC!!! That goes a long way to show that she is a world class goalkeeper and we’re glad she’s with our team,” she added.
Apart from winning the league, Rivers Angels will go home with a cash prize of 3million naira and also go on a tour of Spain.
