Founder of Elite Volleyball Club, Cynthia Okolie-Egbekun says the club will serve as a breeding ground for Champions in Jabi District of Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Okolie-Egbekun told www.aclsports.com that she intends to create a safe and non-toxic space where lovers of the game could bond as a family.
She said remodeling the volleyball court at Government Secondary School (GSS) Jabi will go a long way in enticing the student to fall in love with the game.
“Remodelling the court is also part of our Corporate Social Responsibility as a club and that is giving back to the school and students who play volleyball a standard training and playing environment.
“The club trains at Government Secondary school in Jabi, Abuja. So far, we have brought light and life to our environment, owing to the number of people (security men, house owners, and residents) around the area, who show up whenever we train or play matches to cheer us on and even join us as members of the club.
“Since our Inception, we have had over ten (10) members who live within the environment where we train to join the club to either keep fit, Learn the game of Volleyball, or for the fun that comes with the game”, she added.
The volleyball stakeholder said, “My passion for the game of Volleyball and the impactful relationships I have made with people I met playing the game informed my decision to start the Elite Volleyball Club.
“I wanted to create a safe and non-toxic space for lovers of the game where we could bond as Family, exploit our talents, and build meaningful connections together While enjoying the game of volleyball and all its fitness and Social/Professional Benefits”.
“We train at Government Secondary School Jabi Abuja, the space was very underdeveloped when we came in, they had no net, and the court was very bushy and unmarked.
“We painted and did the little we could but the court still needs a lot of work, it is short and not volleyball standard and also has a very steep edge that is extremely unsafe for our players. We intend to extend the court, remark, and make it a standard Court. Our funds and personal contributions cannot cover this expense hence the Fundraiser”.
She explained that her target is to begin a mini academy for secondary school students in the next five years.
Okolie-Egbekun said, “I believe in organic growth. The vision of the club is to be a successful volleyball club recognized globally for its team’s excellence and a model club setting the pace in Nigeria Volleyball.
“We intend to portray excellence all around and grow a club so self-sufficient to compete Socially and professionally as we progress. One of the visions is to begin a mini volleyball academy for the students in the school where we train (Government Secondary School, Jabi Abuja) is also part of our long-term goals.”
