There was a stampede ahead of the Madagascar versus Senegal match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Antananarivo on Sunday.

Local police said a huge crowd at the gate of the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium became uncontrollable leading to the unfortunate situation.

Hospital report said one person was killed while 37 others sustained injuries and were currently being attended to at different health centres.

However, the game was allowed to go ahead but beyond the scheduled kickoff.

Moussa Konaté put the Teranga Lions ahead after 27 minutes when he pounced on a defensive blunder and unleashed his effort beyond the goalkeeper.

Paulin Voavy restored parity for the hosts a minute before the break.

Senegal returned with more determination, with Liverpool star Sadio Mane becoming more visible in the attacking line unlike in first half.

Inter Milan striker Balde Keita put the visitors ahead once more in the 62nd minute but an own goal conceded by Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly helped Madagascar to share the spoils at 2-2.

Both teams now lead Group A with 4 points each.
