Powerlifting: Oluwafemiayo eyes another World Record in Lagos

World Record holder, Folashade Oluwafemiayo (-86kg) told www.aclsports.com that she is training tirelessly to set another World Record on home soil.

The International Para Powerlifting Championships is scheduled for 24th to 31st January, 2018 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Oluwafemiayo said the most memorable tournament of her life was winning gold at the Mexico City 2017 World Championships.

She said, “My target is to go for the gold and set a new World Record in my fatherland and o know this will be possible by the grace of the almighty God in heaven.

“The 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico was my first ever tournament because that was where I broke the World Record in the women’s up to 86kg lifting 145kg”.

She commended the technical department for their input since the lifters resumed camp since January 3rd 2019.

“The program of the technical department is very superb. As you know, we have been in camp since on January 3rd and I am optimistic that with the training the coaches are giving us, medals are sure for Nigeria lifters by the grace of God.

Oluwafemiayo who started Para Powerlifting in 1999 highlighted Lack of support as the bane of the sports but said things are gradually changing with the coming of the Queen Oboh as the President of the Federation.

Folashade Oluwafemiayo who hails from Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state won silver for Nigeria at the 2012 Paralympics in London, gold at the 2015 All African Games and gold at the Mexico City 2017 World Championships setting a World Record.

She also won gold at the 9th Fazza 2018 World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai breaking her own record and gold at the 2018 Africa Championships in Algeria.
