The final phase of the Prudent Energy Handball League which took place in Lagos saw Niger United and Plateau Peacocks emerge league champions in the male and female categories respectively.
Going into the final day of games both teams led the league table by a point thus having it all to do on the final day of the league.
In the case of Plateau Peacocks who played later in the day, Safety Babes leapfrogged them to pile more pressure on them on the final day having recorded a win in their final game. But Plateau Peacocks dug deep to defeat Lagos Seasiders Babes in front of their home crowd.
Apart winning the league and a cash prize of =N=1m, Niger United and Plateau Peacocks will take part in the Africa Club Championships while the second and third placed teams in the male and female categories: Lagos Seasiders and Safety Shooters; Safety Babes and Imo Grasshoppers will represent Nigeria at the Africa Cup Championships.
