The head coach of Nigeria Women’s Wrestling Team, Purity Akuh has revealed that he has no regrets venturing into the coaching business. Akuh told www.aclsports.com despite not accomplishing some of his dreams as a coach, there is still time to make a major mark in the wrestling world.
The former National Champion explained that he has made a lot of sacrifices for his wrestlers physically, financially and spiritually for them to excel in life.
He said, “Coaching wrestlers in Nigeria has been my dream, hobby and is what I do to earn my income. It has sustained me for over two decades
“I have no regrets becoming a coach, rather I am thanking God and myself for choosing coaching; I have benefited from coaching privileges to meet Presidents of Nigeria, Governors, Minister of Sports in and out the country.
“Certainly there are unfulfilled accomplishments since I ventured into coaching despite the fact that I have won at world level, commonwealth games, continental and Olympic games. I still want to challenge myself to win multiple medals at the world and Olympic Games, preferably gold medals”.
He further said, “I have made so many sacrifices that I really do not want to mention physically, spiritually and financially. To be honest, I have put in a lot of hard work, commitment and sacrifices.”
Akuh said he felt excited seeing most of his wrestlers excel at both National and International Championships.
He said, “Seeing my athletes(Wrestlers) that I personally groomed becoming National and international champions is a thing of joy. It has really encouraged me to do more, it’s increased my commitment towards athletes development. Honestly, it make me happy and pushes me to learn more on how to develop athletes
“Nigeria can break the jinx come 2024 Paris Olympic games by winning gold medals through the help of God and my mentor, my educator, my financial backbone Hon Dr Daniel Igali”.
