France head coach Didier Deschamps admitted to lonely feeling ahead of Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final against Argentina, insisting that he remains happy.
Deschamps will lead his Les Blues troop out for a second successive World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium after what has been an impressive tournament for the two times World Champions.
In his pre-match Press Conference held at the Main Media Centre, Al Rayyan on Saturday, Deschamps says he has the feeling that many across the globe want Lionel Messi to win the World Cup but he will not stress about it.
“I often get that lonely feeling but I’m fine being alone. It doesn’t bother me. This uncertainty always arise but we are here (in the final) and well prepared for tomorrow’s game against Argentina,” said Deschamps.
The 54-year old is one of just two men to have won the World Cup as a player and as a coach having achieved that in 1998 and 2022 respectively.
Deschamps insists he has no worries ahead of Sunday’s final, having learnt from his personal experiences in previous finals of major competitions.
“I don’t have any worries or stress about tomorrow’s game. For a final, you have to prepare differently for it because of the emotions attached to it. So the experiences of 2016 (Euros) and 2018 have helped us in dealing with the emotions.”
The French side are struggling over the fitness of Dayot Upamecano, Raphael Varane, Adrien Rabiot and a host of others who are battling with flu but remain hopeful that most of them will pass a late fitness test.
Argentina vs France will kick-off at 6pm local time at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail on Sunday.
