In the early hours of today, Rafael Nadal defeated South African, Kevin Anderson in a one sided game to win his second grand slam title of the year.

The first time grand slam finalist, Anderson lost to the world number 1 in three straight sets by 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4 after 2 hours 28 mins of play in New York.

“It’s just unbelievable what happened this year,” Nadal said.

“After a couple of years with some troubles, injuries, sometimes playing not good – since the beginning of the season it has been very, very emotional.”

This win makes it Nadal’s 3rd US Open career triumph and it also takes his overall career grand slam tally to 16; just 3 behind the all time highest, Roger Federer.
