Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Champions Rivers Angels on Thursday arrived Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire ahead of the West African Football Union (UFOA B) tournament, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Jewel of Rivers who won the NWFL Super Six championship in Ijebu-Ode in May are one of six clubs in the UFOA B region that will slug it out in the West African nation for two slots at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.
Angels, coached by former Nigerian national team head coach Edwin Okon flew into the land of the Elephants aboard an Air Coted’voire flight from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The team have since checked into their hotel base at the Hotel Nouvelle Pergola du Abidjan in the heart of the capital city. They had a light workout in the premises of the hotel on Thursday evening.
Rivers Angels are billed to have their first feel of the stadium hosting the competition, the Stade Champroux on Friday evening before their opening game on Saturday.
Angels will face Ghanaian Champions Hasaacas Ladies in their opening group game on Saturday billed for the 10,000 capacity Stade Robert Champroux de Marcory starting from 7pm local time (8pm in Nigeria).
The two finalists in the six-team tournament in Abidjan with represent the WAFU Zone B at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt later in the year.
The UFOA B tournament will run between Saturday, July 24 and Thursday, August 5, 2021.
