The results for the Premier League awards for the month of August are in with Liverpool’s, Sadio Mane stealing the headlines as the Player of the month with 3 goals in 3 games. While David Wagner, manager of Huddersfield town and Charlie Daniels of Bournemouth win manager and goal of the month awards respectively.
The Senegalese beat of stiff competition from players like Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United), Alvaro Morata (Chelsea), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United), Mohammed Salah (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Jonas Lossl (Huddersfield town) to emerge winner of the award.
On winning the award Sadio said: ‘I am very happy to accept this award because it means you are in a good way, but I am trying hard to improve.’
‘I want to say thanks to all of my teammates because without them I am nothing. I am happy with my start to the season. Everyone loves to score goals for their team, and it gives me more confidence,’ he added.
After guiding newly promoted side, Huddersfield town to an unbeaten start with back to back wins over Crystal Palace and Newcastle, and a draw against Southampton to remain third on the table to win the Premier League manager of the month award; Wagner said: ‘It’s an honour for me but I’d like to take this award for the whole club, especially my players!’
‘I’d hoped that we would start well but I didn’t expect it! It’s only the start and now we need to be focused for the next one.’
Wagner beat the likes of Jose Mourinho (Manchester United), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Tony Pulis (West Brom) and Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) to win the award.
The third award of the month went to Bournemouth left back, Charlie Daniels after a cracking goal against Manchester City to win the Premier League goal of the month ahead of goals from Sadio Mane (Liverpool), Marcos Alonso (Chelsea), Stephen Ward (Burnley), Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield town).
“I remember Dan Gosling crossed it in and it got headed out and it bounced once, as it was coming to me again I thought it was sitting up nice so I thought I would have a crack and it went in.”
“All of the lads when I came in said: have you seen your goal yet? It’s unbelievable!’ Daniel said. ‘I didn’t actually see it until a little bit after. It was nice. There were some nice angles and it was really pleasing. It’s been a good start so hopefully there would be more to come.”
