The coach of Safety Babes, Innocent Nwankwo said his team is built around discipline on and off the handball court. Safety Babes were crowned champions of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball League in Abuja.
Nwankwo said lifting the trophy for the second time in three years is not a FLUKE.
He told www.aclsports.com that the team beefed up some areas in order to perform well at the recently concluded 2021 Prudent Energy Handball League.
He said, “I am greatly honoured that Safety Babes have been crowed champions of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball League and we look forward to continue to prove that we are not champions by fluke.
“Safety Babes are trying to build an identity and not just a team; that is why we are a team for everybody in the country. Anytime we have competition, the team invites for players for trials and vie for a place in our team; if any player makes a meaningful impact, the technical crew includes such player into the team.
“Safety Babes is built around discipline (in and out of the court) and that is why you see we are so forceful. We would have won the league last year but my girl lost due to a draw but this time around we returned to winning ways.”
Nwankwo said Safety Babes can perform creditably well if they are given the opportunity to play at the 2022 African Winners Club Championship.
He said, “If we attend next year’s African Winners Club Championship, we have quality players that can give us podium finish. I believe if we have an opportunity next year, the girls will give all their best.”
