Safety Babes Handball Club of Abuja have emerged champions of the 2023 Ardova Handball Premier League to win their third consecutive title.
Safety Babes HC have now won the revived Handball Premier League four times under the leadership of Sam Ocheho as President.
Safety Babes played a total of 18 matches, recorded 17 wins, drew one match against Defenders Babes and did not lose any match amassing 53 points from the first and second phase.
A member of the victorious Safety Babes HC team, Ada Okey told www.aclsports.com that it will take 10 years for any team in the country to achieve the feat of her team.
The former junior national team player said, “The feeling of winning our third consecutive title is great and awesome knowing that we almost lifted the trophy last unbeaten before losing to Defenders Babes
“After winning all our matches in the first phase of the league, I and my teammates made it our goal to lift the trophy unbeaten this season; God has mercifully granted our desire.
“Being a champion is not easy but hard work and determination saw us true and we were able to set a record that at least in the next 10 years no team in Nigeria will break it. It feels good to be at the top again but we are not lonely”, she told www.aclsports.com
Queen Modebe said, “Congratulations to us (Safety Babes) for winning the handball premier league title four times in six years and lifting the league three straight times as well as the only unbeaten team in 2023. What a record for us; it can only be God”.
Defender Babes finished second with 46 points Plateau Peacocks finished on the podium for the first time since 2019 as they finished third on the log with 46 points while Rima Queens of Sokoto finished fourth position with 43 points.
In fifth position is Seasiders Babes with 34 points, promoted Delta Queens placed sixth position with 33 points, Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri struggled hard in the second phase to finish seventh place with 30 points while Bendel Dynamos came eighth place with 28 points.
The relegated teams are Bayelsa Queens who finished 9th with 24 points and Benue Queens last with 23 points.
