Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu will face the axe at his French side Girondins Bordeaux after he failed to report back on time from international duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the past week, www.aclsports.com reports.
Kalu, 21, was instrumental to Nigeria’s qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals when his cross was diverted home for Nigeria’s only goal in their 1-1 draw with South Africa in Johannesburg last Saturday.
He also featured for Gernot Rohr’s Eagles in the friendly match against Uganda in Asaba on Tuesday, playing the second forty-five minutes in the barren draw but the former Gent of Belgium star failed to show up at Bordeaux’s training ground as at Thursday morning.
“We have no news (on Kalu), he should have been there this (Thursday) morning. It’s a delayed return of to the team,” Bordeaux manager Eric Bedouet said last night.
The team are preparing ahead of their game at Dijon in the Ligue Un on Saturday but may have to prosecute the game without Kalu and their Guinean forward François Kamano who has also failed to return as scheduled.
Kalu has scored one goal in his ten league appearances at his new club this season and will be required to lift them from their current 11th spot on the league table. Bordeaux are currently without a win in their last five league matches.
