FC Barcelona are eyeing a move for Senegal youth star Souleymane Aw, two years after recruiting another Senegalese, Moussa Wagué, to their reserve team.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 21-year-old left-back, who plies his trade at French club Béziers, has been supervised more than once by Barca representatives, with preliminary talks already opened between both sides.
Like Wagué, Aw is a product of Aspire Academy. He was a member of Senegal team at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 and 2019. He also played at the 2019 edition of the U20 World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals.
While many are happy with the news in Dakar, some local pundits are warning Aw against the potential move following the fate of his compatriot Wagué at Camp Nou.
Former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde named Wagué as one of the five promising young players in the reserve team, but the right-back’s €5 million transfer is yet to live up the expectations.
He was loaned to Nice last January with an option to buy for €15,000,000, but the French club decided not to activate his purchase option following the cancellation of the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season. He has returned to Barcelona.
