Nigerian Nationwide League One (NLO) side Stars Builders Academy have announced the departure of their midfield teenage prospect Sulaiman Shehu to Finnish top division side Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho (SJK), www.aclsports.com reports.
Shehu, born on May 10, 2006, has been under the radar of many European clubs who have monitored his progress at Stars Builders Academy where his talent blossomed, rising to become the team’s young vice captain in the process.
Upon turning 18 in May, SJK moved swiftly to beat the likes of Leganes (Spain) and Haugesund (Norway) to Shehu’s signature thereby handing the intelligent central midfielder his first professional contract.
“Sulaiman Shehu’s move to Finland is huge for us because it underlines our efforts as an Academy as heading towards the right direction,” says Stars Builders Academy CEO Ayodeji Adegbenro.
“Sulaiman is just one of the many bright talents at our disposal and it gives a great deal of encouragement to see that European clubs were falling head over heels for the lad. He has a bright future ahead of him and we are confident SJK will be a good springboard for him,” added Adegbenro.
Shehu has already teamed up with the B team and is expected to integrate gradually into the first team in coming weeks.
Stars Builders Academy were the nursery club of former Flying Eagles striker Olusegun Otusanya who joined Norwegian side Haugesund last year.
