Jurgen Klopp the Liverpool manager is aware of the memories that Istanbul have for Liverpool football clubs fans as his team get ready to play the Super Cup match here against fellow Premier League side Chelsea

“Every Liverpool fan remembers Istanbul and the 2005 Champions League final but this is the 2019 team; even so we are also hoping to carry the same spirit against a very good Chelsea side” the German said.

“If I am right I believe there is a very big Liverpool fan base/community here as well so it will be good for them that we are here. We love them to be at the stadium to help us because we also need as much help as we can get against this Chelsea side”.

Klopp believes that Chelsea are very strong regardless of their heavy defeat at Old Trafford at the weekend. “They are lifted by the presence of a club legend in Frank Lampard as their manager, they have many young players with a lot of energy so I am expecting a tough game tomorrow night”.

Defender Dejan Loveren has missed this trip out here to Turkey. Asked if this is because he will be moving to Roma, Klopp said “No idea. He is not here because he is ill and that is the only reason why he is not here”.

Defender Virgil van Dijk was not going to be drawn into how good he is “I am here to be focused on my club and my job. People can have their opinion on who is best or not, that is not my concern”.

The Holland skipper was not worried about the fact that keeper Adrian has had to be rushed in because of injury to Alisson. “We have worked closely now for the last two weeks and he is ready just as we are ready to play with him. I believe it is even good for him that he has started to play very early”.

Sadio Mane who is fresh back from the AFCON where he finished second to Algeria believes he is ready to go. “In the last seven years of my career I have not had up to 20 days of holiday. So, I am ready to go, ready to play tomorrow”.
