South African Premier Soccer League side Super Sport United have announced the signing of Nigerian international Azubuike Egwuekwe on a 3-year deal.
Egwuekwe who represented Nigeria at the 2014 African Nations Championships in South Africa and was part of the Nigerian squad at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil same year left Finland side Kuopion Palloseura last month.
It had been reported that Egwuekwe was undergoing trials at the Matsatsantsa for the past two weeks and the club made the official announcement via its Twitter account @SuperSportFC on Thursday afternoon.
Egwuekwe, a former captain at Nigerian league side Warri Wolves played 24 games for KUPS in the Finnish top flight last term, scoring twice.
Egwuekwe, 28 is in line for his Super Sport debut in their MTN 8 game against Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
He has 21 caps for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, the last of it in a friendly against Cote d’voire in Dubai on January 2015. His biggest appearance for the Eagles was against Spain at the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.
He is expected to feature prominently in the plans of Matsatsantsa boss Eric Tinkler, a former Bafana Bafana defender.
