Players of Nigerian side Rangers International are upbeat about their chances in the group stage of the 2019/20 Total CAF Confederation Cup (TotalCAFCC) after starting a new life under new handler Salisu Yusuf on Thursday.
Yusuf arrived Enugu on Wednesday on a technical assistant mission with the Flying Antelopes and oversaw the team’s two training sessions on Thursday (morning and evening).
Two members of the team who spoke in the condition of anonymity with www.aclsports.com expressed confidence in the methodology of the former Enyimba coach and spoke of renewed confidence ahead of Sunday’s group opener against Egyotian side Pyramids.
“The sessions went well with coach Salisu. I am sure the Egyptians will be in for a tough time on Sunday because everything is looking up once again,” says one of the team’s top defenders.
Pyramids, a relatively new team but an extremely ambitious one already flew into Nigeria on Thursday despite playing a league game on Wednesday.
A Rangers attacker who was also part of Thursday’s session spoke of his experience and expectations.
“Everyone is starting on a clean slate now with the new coach so you expect that the training sessions were competitive. He is already encouraging us to give our best, whoever is selected for the game on Sunday because Pyramids are one of the toughest teams in the group.”
Rangers vs Pyramids will kickoff at 2pm local time on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu in what will be Salisu Yusuf’s first game in charge of Rangers.
