The Head Coach of Kenya women’s volleyball team, Luizomar de Mours says his favourite Nigerian football player is Kanu Nwankwo (OLY).
Mours made the statement when he met with players of Nigeria women’s volleyball team at the closing ceremony of the 2023 African Senior Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon on Thursday.
The Brazil born volleyball tactician told www.aclsports.com that he fell in love with Kanu Nwankwo after his performance against the Brazil Football Team at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.
He said Nwankwo’s equaliser in the 90th minute and his golden goal left still lingers in his memory.
When Luizomar de Mours sighted www.aclsports.com reporter, he asked “Are you a Nigeria? I love Kanu Nwankwo. I watched him play against Brazil in the semi-final of the Atlanta 1996 Olympics. He scored two crucial and unforgettable goals which ensured Nigeria made it to the final.
“Kanu Nwankwo won my heart with his style of play and contribution to the success of the team; he is my favourite Nigerian football player of all time. I know a lot of Nigerians are familiar with the Brazilian football players and one of our greatest exports is Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (Neymar Jr).
The 1996 African Footballer of the Year has been appointed Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti last July.
Kanu Nwankwo won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax, won the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan, the English Premier League with Arsenal FC as well as many honours.
