Former Gisagara VC player, Chris Udah has expressed his excitement over his first senior team call-up for Nigeria. Chris Udah made the 12-man roster that played at the recently concluded 13th African Games Qualifiers in Lagos.
In a chat with www.aclsports.com, Udah revealed that he will not take the call up for granted.
The Former Nigeria Customs Service player expressed readiness to fight for a place in the senior national team.
He said, “I want to say that I am grateful for the opportunity to get my first senior national team call up. It is a great privilege to be chosen out of the thousands of volleyball players scattered across the globe. Given an opportunity is a thing I should be proud of and I will not take it for granted.
“The senior national team is the highest ranked team; one should expect a high level of competitiveness. In the last few years, I have played in the U17, U19 and U21; I have what it takes to fight for a place in the national team because I played in the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League before moving to Rwanda considering the fact that we have lots of talents in the country.
“I am ready for any challenge and task that will come in the future because this is an opportunity I have to grab”.
The promising player said the Rwandan Volleyball League helped improve his style of play and exposed him to another level.
He further said, “Playing in the Rwandan League has improved my level of confidence and style of play. The Rwandan League has tall players who are exposed and the position they placed at the last African Senior Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship should tell you the standard of their league.
“It was an exposure for me and stepped up my style of play; I am looking forward to contributing my quota to the national team”.
“Nigeria has what it takes to have a podium finish in the forthcoming African Games in Ghana because we have all what it takes to form a good team. All we need is better preparations and remain focus; if you look at West Africa Nigeria parades the best players in the region”, he told www.aclsports.com
“I want to acknowledge the Nigeria Volleyball Federation and the coaches for the confidence bestowed upon us to be invited for the qualifiers; it is an honour that will not be taken for granted. I am looking forward to the next phase of the camp as we prepare for the African Games”, he concluded.
The 13th African Games are expected to be held in Ghana between 8th to 23rd March, 2024. This is the second time in history that the games will be decentralized, as three cities on country will host the event. The three cities chosen for these functions are Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
