After losing their first two games at the ongoing World Men’s Handball Championship in Denmark and Germany, Tunisia revived their campaign with two crucial wins against Chile (36-30) and Saudi Arabia (20-24), totaling 4 points and currently placed third in Group C behind Norway (8pts) and co-host Denmark (8pts).
Only the first three teams of each group (6 teams) progress to the Main Round.
Tunisia will play their final group game against Austria on Thursday January 17 and could confirm their place in the next round with at least a draw.
Egypt, who also lost their first two matches of the competition, pulled off a shock win against top favourites Argentina (24-20) before settling for a draw against Hungary (30-30) to move to third position in Group D with 3 points, behind Sweden and Hungary.
It is going to be an all-African affair at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen on Thursday when Egypt take on Angola in the group’s final round of games.
Egypt, who are tied at 3 points with Argentina, could strengthen their current status in the group with a win over Angola who boast of 2 points.
Angola, who had the brightest start amongst the three African representatives, were crushed in their third outing by Sweden (37-19) before losing to Argentina (33-26).
So far on the top scorer list, Angola have two players in the lot of 14. Romé Hebo, who plays for Primeiro de Agosto in Angola, has netted 21 times already while Edvaldo Ferreira of Tunisian club Etoile Sportive du Sahel has scored 20 goals.
Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El-Tayar is currently 4th on the list of top goalkeepers, after realising 21 saves from 50 shots which amounts to a 41% success.
The 2019 World Men’s Handball Championship will end on January 27.
