Former Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure is currently in talks with Brazilian club Botafogo for a contract, according to his country’s public broadcaster RTI.
The 36-year-old four-time African footballer of the year has been a free agent since his departure from Chinese side Qingdao Huanghai last year.
If negotiations come to fruition, the former Manchester City midfielder could join Japanese star Keisuke Honda, who recently signed for the Rio de Janeiro-based outfit.
The Brasileirao, which is the name for the league, resumes in April, which is also deadline for the transfer window.
After Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor, who joined Club Olimpia in Paraquay, another African star is about to relocate to South America.
Toure also formerly played for Monaco and Barcelona, where he won the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League.
