Following on their impressive first leg results, Nigeria Professional Football League flagbearers in the 2018 CAF Champions League; Plateau United and MFM on Wednesday secured safe passage into the next round.

Reigning league champions United took a 3-0 advantage to Yaounde where they faced Cameroonian Champions Eding Sport in their second leg preliminary round clash.

After a barren first half, Kennedy Boboye’s United went in front through midfielder Raphael Ayagwa to further extend their aggregate advantage to 4-0.

The Peace Boys were reduced to ten men late on when wingback Emma James was sent off but the Tin City side held on for their victory.

Up next for United is a date with Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel with the first leg billed for the Olympic Stadium in Sousse on the weekend of March 6.

In Lagos, Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC, also progressed to the first round of the Champions League after a 2-1 aggregate victory over Malian side AS Real du Bamako.

The Church Boys had held the Malians to a 1-1 draw in Bamako ten days ago and despite having to work extra hard on the day; secured a 1-0 win at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday.

Chijioke Akuneto headed home the game’s only goal nine minutes from time after an incisive cross from substitute Abayomi Lawal, the 16-year old who was making history as the youngest Champions League participant by any Nigerian club.

MFM will await winners of the elimination round tie between Algerian side MC Alger and Congolese side AS Otoho.
