Adekuoroye creates wrestling history for Nigeria at the World Championship in Paris

Odunayo Adekuoroye on Wednesday afternoon became the first Nigerian female wrestler to book a place in the final of any World Wrestling Championships, She achieved the feat at the ongoing World wrestling meet in Paris, France.

The lanky wrestler on her way to the final, defeated Iryna Kurachkina of Bulgaria by Technical fall 10-0 in the Semifinal of the 55kg women category.

The World Bronze Medalist beat Mongolia’s Davaachimeg Erkhembayar 8-4 in the quarterfinals while seeing off Hockova Martinakova of Czech in the second round by Technical Superiority 10-0 points.

Earlier in the first round, the Commonwealth gold medalist got a 13-9 win over Mathilde Hélène RIVIERE of France.

The seven-time Africa champion, Blessing Oborududu (63kg) lost to two-time junior world medalist Orkhon Purevdorj of Mongolia by Technical fall while Three times Africa champion, Aminat Adeniyi (58kg) fell to Olympic fifth-place finisher Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kazakhstan by 3-4 in the Quarter finals respectively.

The final matches will be held on Wednesday evening by 6 p.m.
